ABOUT MELVIN

I'm Melvin Yen, a passionate artist and a dreamer with a wealth of experience in theatre and film. I've worn many hats in my career - producer, director, playwright, and arts administrator. Currently, I'm honing my skills as a General Management Fellow at Playwrights Horizons, following my recent graduation from NYU with an M.A. in Performing Arts Administration.

My journey in the world of theatre has been diverse and enriching. I've worked on Broadway with TBD Theatricals and in Taiwan with U Theatre. I've also served as a Creative Design Fellow at NYU's Production Lab. I've been fortunate to contribute to a variety of productions, from "A Christmas Carol" on Broadway to "River Journey" at the National Theater of Taiwan, each experience adding a unique note to my symphony of artistic expression.

Beyond the stage, I hold a bachelor's degree in business from Zhejiang University and have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit. I'm the proud founder and artistic director of A Stage Theatre, a New York-based Mandarin theatre group. Here, I'm dedicated to bringing original Mandarin stories and performances to life, sharing the richness of our culture with New York audiences.

Art, to me, is a language that transcends borders. It's a dialogue between the creator and the audience, a shared experience that can evoke laughter, tears, and thought. As an artist, my goal is to create meaningful and impactful art, to tell stories that resonate, and to contribute to the ever-evolving conversation that is theatre.

I'm excited about the journey ahead and the opportunities it brings. I'm eager to continue my work in theatre production, directing, and writing, and to bring my ideas to life on stage. I'm not just an artist, but a visionary, ready to make my mark in the world of theatre and film.
